So, Tyrese is obviously talking to advertise for his movie that is out in theaters. Either that or he hasn’t seen a microphone that he doesn’t adore. In a recent interview with BET, Tyrese had a lot to say about those loose women out there in the world. If you don’t recall his words, then let me help you:

“I’m gonna tell you all right now, and this might be harsh. Sluts, skeezers, hoes, tramps and overly aggressive promiscuous women, they are never without a man because they don’t have no standards. They ready to have sex with any and everything that want to have sex with them. But when you are single, and you actually love yourself, you know your value and your self worth you hold out until God sends you what’s yours.” [1]

And naturally, he faced backlash for it. After all, we are within a life where criticism and information comes in lightning fast. It says a lot when a man takes the time to chastise women when he should focus on his promotion.

Eventually, he came to his senses (figured out people were tired of his shit) and posted an official apology on Instagram. On the popular social media site, he had this to say:

For the record I’m far from a misogynist, a male chauvinist or flat out mean….. My intentions were there but my delivery fucking horrible…. And clearly all the way off…. And for that I sincerely apologize to all of the ladies… Even after this apology…. Some may likely decide to NOT forgive me…. Time and consistency heals all wounds…. Although I’ve been consistently for years speaking on these topics and some of the same words in my message, I have never experienced what I am experiencing right now. – I’ve been getting dragged and feel the heat from my poor choice of words and approach to my messages, trust me….. Please accept this as my sincere apology for my poor choice of words – [2]

And you know what? I think he did the right thing. It is always the mature idea to apologize and realize that he is actually wrong. So, I can commend him on that part.

Here is the kicker, though: he is still a chauvinist with misogynistic habits. Or he is misogynistic. Either or depending on what suits your fancy.

Tyrese Wisdom Haven’t Been Women Friendly

The issue is that this isn’t the first time THIS YEAR that Tyrese decided to offer his “wisdom” to women that didn’t care nor wanted to hear anything he had to say. For example, he went full blown hotep-goofball-retard in response to “women male bashing” that he overheard. Instead of taking the high road and just keeping it smart, he had to go in about the unnecessary things like:

  • Shaming women for having weaves or hair clip ins
  • Shaming women with eye lash extensions and “fake hard titties pointing in four directions”
  • Making a comment that these women look like clowns
  • And don’t forget the advertisement of his “book” called Manology

I guess he wanted to do men a favor and speak for all of us? Or I guess he wanted women to feel bad about the choices that many of them make for themselves? I don’t know. Also, I’m not buying into the bullshit. Couple of days later, he posted a picture of his wife to scoff at the haters out there.

Here is where the problem starts: Tyrese hasn’t figured out that is traditionalist values reek of patriarchal chauvinism that brings out his most misogynistic vices. Men (like me and the rest of this western society) must realize that women are not here for our idealism. They aren’t here to fit our idea of what is beautiful. They are not here to work hard to satisfy our male gaze and attention. And once we realize this, then things may become better for them.

Yet, I highly doubt that Tyrese will improve his views of women anytime soon. His attitude may improve over time, but I’m not quite sure I want to give him that much credit yet. You see, Tyrese did mention something that is alarming: this is how he was raised to think. And it will take a lot of enlightenment well beyond an internet dragging and Wendy Williams shout out to make him see the patriarchal bullshit that many men (including me) have been navigating our relationships with. Being anti-patriarchy takes more than an Instagram apology with a posed picture.

Tyrese Wisdom Ain’t Wise

I don’t know if Tyrese is going to release a Manology book or not. And if he does, I may try to read it so I can break down the truths, falsehoods, and malarkey. That is neither here nor there. What is apparent is that Tyrese hasn’t truly escaped the clutches of being a chauvinist. Part of me isn’t fully convinced that he is working hard to be, either. But I will let him realize his misogyny-laced wisdom just isn’t astute at all.

‘Nuff Said and ‘Nuff Respect!!!
