It is the Monday after the Turkey Day Classic. This past game was quite interesting for a few reasons. There was plenty of good to take notice to. In other instances, there was something that may be proven to be problematic. Then again, the entire situation was something wonderful for all to partake in. That is, if you shared the same perception that I have of this event.
Luckily, I didn’t have to work for this entire week. Thus, the after effects of partying hard and having the time of my life aren’t affecting me as much.
Turkey Day Classic 2014 – The Good
This year’s Turkey Day Classic had a lot of good things going for it. Beside the fact that the weather wasn’t too cold (unlike last year), there was a lot of things going on. It all started with the step show that happened on Thursday and the concert that they had on Friday. From there, it was pretty much tailgate time. To be fair, it seemed that tailgating was one of the best parts of the game. Hell, I left right after the band performed so I could go BACK to the tailgate area that my frat brothers had.
Peace to Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated, Beta Upsilon (Beta Oop) Chapter. If anyone was around, they know that we had a ball.
Turkey Day Classic 2014 – The Bad
To be fair, there is just one thing that could detract from an event that was pretty relaxing and essential. The biggest issue I noticed was the “lack of game attendance” on the Stillman side. When Tuskegee was involved, there would be plenty of their fans hooting, hollering, and hating. When the new stadium was unveiled, there would be a game worth mentioning (attendance wise). However, having Stillman as our rival softened the attendance make up quite a bit.
Turkey Day Classic 2014 – The Wonderful
To be honest, the best part of it all was not the events or the game itself. The greatest takeaway from this was that it felt like an overextended family reunion. There were people that I haven’t seen in over a decade. Yet, I received a chance to tell them that I was “doing fine” and to see that they were “doing fine themselves”. I know this may not be meaningful for plenty of us. However, realizing that I’m not getting any younger makes for this to be a pleasing necessity.
Turkey Day Classic 2014 – The Epilogue
All and all, this Turkey Day Classic was pretty good. The weekend stayed pretty eventful for the alumni and Montgomery, Alabama locale. However, the game isn’t the same due to a change in rival. Still, most of us weren’t there to go to the game. The majority of us was there to see our family. Like my mom always say: it is about family first.
‘Nuff Said and ‘Nuff Respect!!!
